Clarification Required on CT600 Submissions and Outstanding Returns Status

I have submitted multiple CT600 returns through TinyTax. However, when I log in to the HMRC website, the status still shows: “Your returns – You may have returns to complete.”

At this stage, I am not certain whether all required filings have been fully and correctly submitted to HMRC. This is particularly concerning as I have already received a £300 penalty.

I would like to clarify:

Whether HMRC has successfully received and processed all CT600 returns submitted via TinyTax; and

Whether there are any outstanding returns or additional filings that still require completion.

I would appreciate confirmation of my current compliance status and guidance on any further steps needed to avoid additional penalties.

Thanks for getting in touch. I've investigated your account and can explain what's happened.

Your company's first accounting period ran from 23 January 2023 to 31 January 2024. Because this is longer than 12 months, HMRC requires it to be split into two separate CT600 returns:

- Period 1: 23 Jan 2023 to 22 Jan 2024 (12 months)

- Period 2: 23 Jan 2024 to 31 Jan 2024 (9 days)

I can see that Period 1 was successfully filed via TinyTax and accepted by HMRC.

However, Period 2 is marked as "filed elsewhere" in our system. This means TinyTax believes you filed this 9-day stub period through another method (e.g. an accountant or other software).

The key question is: was Period 2 actually filed with HMRC?

If it wasn't, that would explain why HMRC is showing "returns to complete" and has issued the penalty - they're waiting for the CT600 covering those final 9 days.

To check:

1. Log into your HMRC Business Tax Account

2. Look at which specific period is showing as outstanding

To resolve (if Period 2 wasn't filed): You'll need to file a CT600 for the period 23 Jan 2024 to 31 Jan

2024. In TinyTax, you can remove the "filed elsewhere" marker for this period and submit it.

Let me know what you find and we'll help you get this sorted.
