question

Good morning. I have a small problem: all my income comes from outside the UK, so I don't have to pay tax, but the software automatically calculates my tax liability. What's the solution? Also, I don't have any employees and I don't live in the UK.

A UK-registered company is normally subject to UK Corporation Tax on its worldwide profits, regardless of where customers are based, where the director lives, or whether the company has employees.

So if your company is UK tax-resident, TinyTax is correct to calculate a corporation tax liability even if all your income comes from outside the UK.

The only time UK corporation tax would not apply is if the company is not UK-resident for tax purposes, which depends on where it is centrally managed and controlled — this is uncommon and usually requires professional advice.

If you’ve already paid tax on this income in another country, you may be able to claim Double Taxation Relief. At the moment TinyTax doesn’t support this (CT600 box 450), so you’d need to use HMRC’s software or an accountant for that part.

If you’d like, let us know whether any foreign tax has been paid, and we can help you understand your options.
